At the start of the programme, children are introduced to the idea that a computer needs to be given instructions in order for it to know what to do. Through a number of Unplugged activities(carried out without computers), children learn that commands need to be clear and precise, and given in the correct sequence, if the computer is going to do what they want.
Once children gain this understanding, they are then introduced to computer languages. They are encouraged to experiment and analyse possible ways to take their ideas further, typing simple instructions that get instant results, bringing their ideas to life.
As children progress through the programme, they will gain photo manipulation skills, customising their sprites (animation images), incorporating their created graphics resources into their animation or digital story-telling projects. This encourages them to be more inventive and to unleash their imaginations.
These and many more are the skills being learnt which is why it is not surprising that children never want to leave at the end of sessions! In order to ensure that learning continues even when children are not with us, we encourage them to create online accounts so that learning can continue to take place anywhere and everywhere.
